Regula is named after the secular monastic order Regula Pragenſis, in honour of the inspiration which emanates from every moment spent in the presence of the members of this order with a glass of some good beverage. Initially digitized font with jagged edges had a rather narrow range of application until summer 2009, when we added Text cuts. Regula was a Baroque alphabet faithfully taken over from a historical model including its inaccuracies and uneven letter edges. It reminds a nature of letterpress, but if we were to be conſistent, the letters which repeat themselves should also differ from each other, which is difficult in the case of digital setting. Now, it has quiet, regular shapes, straightened lines and even angularity of Italics, so it can be used for longest texts. Agreeable distraction experienced when working on Regula Text will probably feel also a reader bored by common overused fonts. The typeface looks best in sizes about 8 – 12 points, but can be largely used on posters as well. It will certainly find its own niche in book deſign, cultural events and corporate identity. (Purposely suited basic typeface for “Spa Guest” – the oldest samizdat in Bohemia, issued by Regula Pragensis.)
Regula je pojmenována podle necírkevního řeholního řádu Regula Pragensis na počest inspirace, která vyvěrá z každého okamžiku stráveného v přítomnosti jeho řeholníků se sklenkou dobrého nápoje. Původně digitalisovaný font s otřepanými okraji měl velmi úzké možnosti použití a to až do léta 2009, kdy jsme nakreslili textové řezy. Regula byla barokní abeceda věrně převzatá z historické předlohy včetně nepřesností a nepravidelností. Připomíná přirozenost knihtisku, ovšem pokud bychom chtěli být důslední, musela by se od sebe vzájemně lišit i stejná písmena, což je u digitální sazby obtížné. Nyní má klidné, pravidelné tvary, napřímené linie a stejnoměrný sklon kursiv, takže se hodí i na nejdelší texty. Příjemné rozptýlení, zažívané při práci na písmu Regula Text, možná pocítí i čtenář znuděný běžnými nadužívanými fonty. Písmo vypadá nejlépe ve velikostech okolo 8 – 12 bodů, ale může též být rozsáhle použito na plakátech. Jistě si najde své místo při úpravě knih, kulturních podniků i firemní identity.
