The Kolonada font has been designed exclusively for the Kraft Food company to identify their wafers product range. Kolonada Spa Wafers is known Czech product with distinctive design originated from early sixties. Scripts used on packagings were always hand-drawn until 2011, when the company commissioned its digital transcription. Based on only 14 supplied letters, we had to create the remaining ones and retain a lively calligraphic feel of the new font. To do so, many ligatures and position-sensitive forms had to be created and programmed. Joining script typefaces shall usually have strict and smooth connections, but there are exceptions for “filling ink” break, such as the middle “f”, freed from its connecting diagonals. The overall colour and stroke contrast allows its use in all sizes and is robust enough to stand printing on whatever surface, be it a glossy cellophane sack or blotting cardboard box.
